Virtual Me: Origins is a game about your real life. These terms are short on purpose: they say what the app is, what we ask of you, and what we promise back. By using the app you agree to them.
Who we are
Virtual Me: Origins ("the app", "we") is developed by Richard de Souza. Questions about these terms go to privacy@virtualmeorigins.com.
Who can use the app
You must be 18 or older. The app asks for your year of birth and will not continue if it indicates you are under 18.
What the app does
The app turns things you really do — movement, sleep, study, creating, practising — into a character with six stats. It reads evidence you choose to give it (photos and videos you submit, health data on your phone, accounts you connect or log in with) and an automated reviewer decides what that evidence is worth. Stats can go up when you show up and down when you stop. That is the game.
Your account
- Your character is attached to an account on your device and, if you choose, to your Apple ID or another service you log in with. Keep your device and those accounts secure; what happens under your account is yours.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time by emailing us (see the Privacy Policy).
Playing fair
The whole app rests on evidence being real. You agree not to:
- submit photos, videos, screenshots or data that are not yours, are staged, or are altered to claim effort you did not make;
- connect or log in with an account that is not yours;
- interfere with the app, its servers, or other people's use of it, or try to reach data that is not yours.
We may reduce, remove or reset rewards that were earned on false evidence, put an account's stats on hold until its stat tests are taken again, and close accounts that keep doing it.
Connected services
When you log in with or connect another service (for example Google, X, Twitch, GitHub, Duolingo, Apple Health or Health Connect), you do so under that service's own terms as well as these. We only read what the Privacy Policy describes, we never post or act on your behalf, and you can disconnect at any time. Those services are not ours; if one of them changes or stops what it shares, that part of the app may stop working.
Your content
Photos, videos and other evidence you submit stay yours. You give us permission to process them for the purpose of reviewing and scoring them, as the Privacy Policy describes, and for nothing else.
Connected games
Scanning a game's code shares a read-only snapshot of your character with that game, as described in the Privacy Policy. Games built by others are governed by their own terms.
Testing releases
The app is currently in testing. Features may change, break, or disappear between versions, and rewards may be adjusted as the scoring rules are tuned. We will say so in the app when a change affects what you have earned.
No warranty, and limits on liability
The app is provided as it is. Stats, verdicts and rewards are a game, not medical, financial or professional advice, and we do not promise they are accurate. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app or your reliance on anything in it. Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law does not let us limit.
Ending things
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we may stop offering the app; if we do, we will give reasonable notice where we can.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app.
